Unique Handpainted Custom Art & Designs

Haybag Maddie – The Story So Far

‘Haybag Maddie’ Adamson creates unique, authentic, one-of-a-kind handpainted custom art and designs that honour the men, women, machines and militaria of the 20th century.

Famed for her custom handpainted clothing, Haybag Maddie Adamson rescues and transforms all kinds cherished items – both vintage and new – into works of art you can wear, use and treasure.

An artist, gallery exhibitor, Aardman Animation alumni, and former winner of the Under 16 Turner Contemporary Prize, Haybag Maddie is also a military historian, re-enactor and collector, creating authentic, custom, handpainted artwork that’s painstakingly researched, accurately reproduced and delicately aged to bring the spirit of the World Wars to life.

Why ‘Haybag’ Maddie?

Why Haybag Maddie? It’s in honour of the remarkable Haybag Annie, beloved WW2 painter for the 385th Bomb Group. Annie Haywood painted the nose-art of many of the B17 Flying Fortresses as well as many individual A2 flying jackets, and one B17 was named “Haybag Annie” for her. Haybag Maddie is proud to follow in her footsteps and brushstrokes.

Art. WW2. Lee.
Love & War…

Napoleon’s last words were apparently ‘France. Army. Josephine.’ Haybag Maddie’s would be Art. WW2. Lee.

Combining her love for art, history and her other-half, Haybag Maddie is not only a talented designer and artist but a busy re-enactor and collector of 20th century militaria together with her partner, Lee.

A talented photographer in his own right, Lee John Gibbs is constantly researching and collecting WW2 kit and militaria, keeping alive the stories and memories of service personnel and civilians, and is indispensable in helping ensure Haybag Maddie’s creations are as accurate and authentic as possible.

Together they travel the UK and the world commemorating the people, stories and objects of the World Wars. And if they stay still for long enough, painting them.

You can follow their continuing exploits and escapades on The Adventures of Haybag Maddie blog.

We’re Loving Masters Of The Air!

Masters Of The Air is seeing interest take-off!

We’re loving the Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg series Masters Of The Air following the story of the incredible 8th US Air Force and their courageous WW2 daylight bombing raids. If you haven’t seen it then watch the trailer here.

Interest in everything about them is rising – including the HAy2 handpainted Haybag Maddie A2 – but do you know why the series is called ‘Masters of the Air’? Or why you might not see so many painted jackets in the series? We can help with that…

What our lovely customers say!

{
The art Maddie painted onto my A2 jacket is absolutely breathtaking and gave incredible life to the mockup art I sent. It really feels like it belongs in a museum.
Communication throughout the process was second to none. There’s no one better to commission for your artwork than Haybag Maddie!
Couldn’t recommend her enough!
Thank you, Maddie.
