‘LIBRA’ of the 486th BG “Zodiac Squardon” of B-24’s based out of Sudbury, Suffolk. If you’ve been around for a while, you well know my obsession with the nose art of Phillip Brinkman of the 486th. He became an editorial illustrator after the war which makes sense when you look at his work. This was my little homage to him and the Libs of this BG, it’s a jacket I miss dearly but I know it’s gone to a very good home! Last photo is of me and the jacket at Duxford last year!
Please please please someone commission me to paint all 12 of these Zodicas, it’s my dream 😂🙏🏻

In between eating my own body weight in chocolate eggs, I spent my Easter painting a Ward Le France Wrecker door with this iconic design. I’ve included some process drawings as it’s always fun to see how the text/design changes along the way.
This piece was so big (and heavy) that it couldn’t go in the studio, and so had to be painted in my hallway - I am pleased to report that yes, I did get in everyone’s way while doing it 😂
Can’t wait to see this piece reattached and at a show soon!
That’s Haul Folks! 👌🏻

An incredible day supporting the wonderful @306thbgmuseum - so good to finally visited the home of the ‘Rose of York’, ‘Fightin’ Pappy’ and ‘Meat Hound’ which are amongst some of my favourite paints of all time. The museum has a brilliant collection including a few lovely original A2’s which had been personalised!
It’s been beautiful sunny day punctuated by brilliant conversation, moving stories and painting! A pure joy, thank you again to the 306th for having me and @airtroopercollects …and also keeping us topped up with tea throughout ☺️

After a fantastic morning looking around the RMP museum and having a pootle about in the Queens 70’s Landy - I had the absolute pleasure of christening Toby Brayley’s beautiful Jeep with a painted name! A very touching family connection which inspired her overall paint scheme, and which made sign writing her all the more special. Thank you also Toby for the lend of you M41 while I painted, and also the number plate as a ruler - necessity is the mother of invention! 🖌️

What an incredible Remembrance Day it’s been - following Lee’s passing out parade on Friday, we had pleasure to observe it at Lincoln Cathedral with Lee in his service dress. Lee’s cap was christened at the Squadron Bar at the Petwood Hotel last night, we found the AAC emblem sat above the bar so it had to be done! 🍻
The Remebermace service was a particularly special, we saw the Peace Dove instillation at the cathedral and watched thousand of poppies fall from the catherdal ceiling during the silence. A very fitting tribute. 🕊️
We then had a wonderful around Lincoln - did some early X-MAs shopping and went to Lincoln prison…we sure know how to pack a day! 😆

‘Net Results’ - A non-commission piece to take to MO. B-24 ship of the 380th BG PTO, based in Darwin, Okinawa and various locations across the pacific. Some beautiful artwork on their ships, this one in particular being taken directly from an Elvgren pin-up of the early 40’s/ late 30’s. My last paint before I attend Military Odyssey, end my week in the studio on a high!

Watch our Haybag Maddie video, giving you an insight into the who, what and why behind-the-scenes here at HBM HQ. Huge thanks to all the people, places and events that feature in the video!
Haybag who-now??
Why Haybag Maddie? It’s in honour of the remarkable Haybag Annie, beloved WW2 painter for the 385th Bomb Group. Annie Hayward painted the nose-art of many of the B17 Flying Fortresses as well as many individual A2 flying jackets, and one B17 was named “Haybag Annie” for her. Haybag Maddie is proud to follow in her footsteps.

Art. WW2. Lee
Napoleon’s last words were apparently ‘France. Army. Josephine.’ Haybag Maddie’s would be Art. WW2. Lee. Combining her love for art, history and her other-half, Haybag Maddie Adamson is not only a talented designer and artist but a busy re-enactor and collector of 20th century militaria together with her partner, Lee.
What our lovely customers say
The art Maddie painted onto my A2 jacket is absolutely breathtaking and gave incredible life to the mockup art I sent. It really feels like it belongs in a museum. Communication throughout the process was second to none. There’s no one better to commission for your artwork than Haybag Maddie! Couldn’t recommend her enough! Thank you, Maddie.
